My name is Karis Miller. I was born in Austin Texas. After working for three years in corporate event planning including industry conferences and PR events, I enrolled at Babson College, Massachusetts to complete a degree in business and entrepreneurship. Whilst at college, I assisted other wedding planners and came to know that every aspect of wedding planning suited my skills and personality. On graduation, I started my wedding planning business and after five years, I'm still passionate about my work.
I enjoy the spontaneity that wedding planning brings and getting to know people over time. Some clients book me as their wedding planner 9 or even eighteen months before their marriage. We get to know each other well and I'm totally committed to seeing my clients through to their wedding day. I'm there biggest advocate for their preparations and I love the responsibility and challenge that gives me.
I enjoy all the different parts that make up the wedding: the food, flowers, music, photography, videography, attire, transportation, and favors, just to name a few. I am genuinely excited about all parts of the wedding planning. What I really like is keeping an eye open for new and exciting products and services to benefit my clients.
A big part of my work as a wedding planner is negotiation and mediation. I take all the pressure of the couple by taking responsibility to review contracts and vendor agreements and have them tailored to meet the unique needs of their clients.
For me as a wedding planner, this is also my big day. There are many little things that can go wrong on the day, but I'm always vigilant about even the smallest details so can spot problems before they happen and deal calmly with problems that appear (a stain on the bride's dress for example). I've folded programs, assembled favors, hauled boxes in the early hours before the guests arrive. Sometimes, I'm practically sprinting from one end of a venue to the other, getting my hands dirty so that the vendors can do their work and that the happy couple and their guests have a fantastic day. I love it all.
Witnessing the couple I've grown to love have the wedding day they dreamed of, gives me a level of job satisfaction I couldn't expect to find elsewhere. I love being a wedding planner!
